MARGARET IVEY
Actor. Teaching Artist.

Margaret Ivey is an actor and a teaching artist based in New York City.
She is best known for originating the role of Zoe in The Niceties (Contemporary American Theatre Festival), and for being the first Black actress to play the title role in Jane Eyre at a major regional theater (Cincinnati Playhouse).
In Spring 2025, she worked with Epic Theatre Ensemble on an original multi-language production of Antigone --performing in English and French as the Chorus, writing French translations, and serving as a teaching artist for residencies tied to the production. This program led 1800 NYC public high school students to consider the essential questions of the play and to create their own adaptations based on current injustices in the world.
Stage and Screen
On screen, she has worked with Téa Leoni on CBS’ Madam Secretary, and Lou Diamond Phillips and Alan Cumming on FOX’s Prodigal Son. She also appeared on NBC’s The Blacklist and in the feature film Different Flowers.
Her stage work has taken her across the country. She is proud to have played a host of classical roles, including Perdita in The Winter’s Tale (Alley Theatre), Belle in A Christmas Carol (Alliance Theatre), and Philinte in The Misanthrope (Molière in the Park). She has workshopped new plays at Off-Broadway companies such as Ensemble Studio Theatre, The Fire This Time Festival, Manhattan Theatre Club, and Roundabout Theatre Company. Her ongoing mission is to continue to tell stories that explore the richness of the Black experience.
